Part 13
The family historian
Bilingual AI chat, memory and chapter expansions.
# Part 13 — The Family Historian The **Family Historian** at **`/historian/[projectId]`** is a conversational surface where you can ask about the life captured in the project and get bilingual, historically aware responses. ## 13.1 What the historian can do Five surfaces are accessible from the historian sub‑nav: | URL | Surface | |---|---| | `/historian/[projectId]` | Overview | | `/historian/[projectId]/chat` | **💬 Chat** — ask any question | | `/historian/[projectId]/expansion` | **🔍 Life insight** / **🧵 Cross‑project synthesis** | | `/historian/[projectId]/memory` | **🌿 Memory expansion** | | `/historian/[projectId]/chapter` | **📖 Chapter expansion** | ## 13.2 The chat surface The chat has: - An **EN / FR toggle** in the top‑right - A **message board** showing your questions and the historian's replies as bubbles - A **composer** at the bottom (Cmd/Ctrl+Enter sends) When you ask a question, the historian responds with a **simulated streaming** reply (the bubble fills in word by word). Each reply may include **reference chips** — small badges showing which materials it drew from (memories, chapters, timeline, media, capsules). The thread is **stored independently for EN and FR**. Toggling the language switches threads. ## 13.3 Expansions The four expansion kinds (memory / chapter / insight / synthesis) work like the Memorial AI: 1. Click **✦ Generate** 2. Fill in the form (person name, relationship, family name, optional locations / relationships / milestones / qualities / memories / notes — and a memory or chapter ID for those kinds) 3. The platform produces a bilingual draft 4. Edit in the **EN / FR tabbed editor** below 5. Save to the vault, attach to a chapter, attach to the timeline, attach to a capsule, mark published — same buttons as the Memorial AI editor ## 13.4 Revision workflow Every editor has a **✦ Request revision** button. Instructions go in a text box; a checkbox lets you **Regenerate from scratch** instead of revising. Revisions are saved in a per‑output history. ## 13.5 Activity log A **Historian activity** log at the bottom of every page tracks chat questions, generated expansions, edits, saves, attachments, and publishes — each tagged with language. You can clear it anytime. ---
