In short: some links on Roots We Planted to outside genealogy websites are affiliate links. If you follow one of those links and subscribe or make a purchase there, we may earn a referral commission from that company. This never changes what you pay, and it never affects what we show you or recommend.

1. Where these links appear

Affiliate links appear only in Premium Archive Search, a Research feature available to subscribers on a paid Family Tree plan. When you research a person in your tree, we offer one-click, pre-filled search links to the major paid genealogy archives so you can search their records directly on their own site, using your own subscription there.

2. The partners named

The archive sites we currently link to, by name, are:

• Ancestry (ancestry.com)
• MyHeritage (myheritage.com)
• Findmypast (findmypast.co.uk) — shown for UK/Irish research
• Geneanet (geneanet.org) — shown for French/European research

Where we have an active affiliate agreement with one of these companies, the link you click is routed through that company's own referral-tracking redirect before landing on their search results page. Where we do not (yet) have an agreement with a given partner, the link goes straight to their site with no tracking and no commission.

3. What this does and doesn't mean for you

• It costs you nothing extra. Any commission we earn is paid by the archive site out of their own revenue, never added to your bill or theirs.
• It doesn't change our recommendations. All four partners are shown for every relevant search — we do not favor one over another based on commission rates, and a partner appears or is hidden based only on the jurisdiction most likely to hold the records (e.g. Findmypast for a UK-born ancestor), never on affiliate status.
• We never see your activity on their site. We do not receive your search results, your account details on the partner site, or anything else about what you do once you leave Roots We Planted — only, where an affiliate agreement exists, that a referral from us led to a visit (and, per the partner's own program, potentially a sale).
• A subscription to that site is required to view full records. These are search deep-links, not a data feed — we do not fetch, cache, or redistribute any partner's records ourselves.

4. How the tracking itself works

Roots We Planted does not set any tracking cookie on rootsweplanted.com for this program. The referral is recorded entirely by the destination company (or their affiliate network) once you land on their site, using a code embedded in the link's web address — the same mechanism almost every affiliate program on the web uses.
